Given that Porsche did some steps into the wrong direction (lack of engine sound, reduced driver involvement, PDK operation) with the MkII 997, let's hope the 998 gets back on track again.

Not exactly radical then - can already imagine the press comments - laziest designers in town, will anyone notice it's a new one etc. Interesting though that the headlights are heading more to the vertical - heading back further to classic 991 design cues. I love it that they always tape over the badge on the front - like anyone's not going to know it's a Porsche.

I was kinda hoping that the 998 models were going to be a bit more imaginative than this! Compare the now unveiled Panamera with the original spy shots, induce not too much imagination to see how the 998 will look......

Amusing how the cover the car in GRP, my mate used to test cars for a living and he said when he was doing it they would put the running gear in an exisitng car - at the time they were developing a 4 pot turbo for the new model, yet the engine was being run in the old model round Millbrook for months and months before. I think a lot of this is marketing, they build the hype slowly, like with the GT-R etc.

The back end looks Grimsvile (imho). I hope they sort that out before production*. (*hmm, but if they don;t change something radically it'll just look like another 911 )

Tells us nothing whatsoever. All rumour, conjecture and speculation.
Every aspect could be a aprt of the disguise

I reckon the 998 will have similar headlights to the new Boxster/Cayman - ie, incorporating the indicators, but subtly like the CGT, not like the 996/986. Plus the bonnet will be a bit plumper, for pedestrian safety regs.
Apart from that, it'll be just another 'polish' to the design... and if it ain't broke...

That's much more likely to be a 997 body with 998 running gear as a test mule.

8 cylinder flat boxer engine would be a bit too heavy imo for rear engine car. With fuel/CO2 issues think they will stick with 6 cylinder configuration and also bring in a 4 cylinder boxer engine for the 911 pehaps calling it the 912 again. High performance variants will be turbocharged. Ferrari/Aston will follow suit as large capacity engines will never be able to meet future European CO2 legislation unless they are hybrids.

Looks to me like a Gen 2 turbo, that is due for release early - mid 2009, and they have disguised the spoiler. Thats all.
998 aint gonna be about until 2011
edit: that is going on the current lifecycle
