Right! Situation so far! Had a leak from heater matrix because it was leaking, so I had it bypassed, removed front number plate, had belts changed and adjusted but my 95 M 4.0HC is still getting warm! (90oC all the time at least!) Ive read the bible and Im looking at thermostat and otter switch next. Can I still bleed the system without the heater or does need doing before I start anything else, its just that to supply and fit the new matrix is overly cheap!
Ta!

90deg is fine, as long as your fans are cutting in regularly and maintaining the temperature around this figure, then I don't think you've got a problem.

My Griff 500 runs at 88-90 winter or summer, but then it would as it has a 88 water stat. But in order to have that it has to have proper cooling fan control, half speed fans when moving at slow speeds and full speed if required. These engines originally had a great big fan spinning all the time at varying speeds. Then again it could be your guage telling porkies and you have nothing to worry about.

If you've had a leak you will most likely have air in the system, and cooling problems after that suggest you haven't bled the system properly. Having the heater disconnected is no problem, but make sure you bleed the radiator as well as the engine. (Air in the engine will tend to be pushed out into the swirl pot; air in the radiator will tend to stay there until bled out by the drain cock in the top corner.)

Mine 2000 chim never gets above 85 even after a long run, I think the setting for the fans is fairly mechanical so unless you are getting a overheating situation I would not be overly concerned

The otter switch controls the fans, its not uncommon for them to "play up" e.g come on and turn off at inappropriate times.

As long as the flow and return pipes to and from the heater are linked together rather than capped off then the coolant will run around as if the heater is on at all times. I have got a 94 430 which I have to regularly bleed air form or it gives problems in heavy taffic on hot days. I leave if ticking over with cap off expansion bottle for 20mins or so until no bubble come up.
