Hi there,

Thinking of buying the Mrs a Tom-Tom.

However - they can apparently have a Pro-Clip system of fitting that fits to the car's vents. This system has one part ('Part 1') that attaches to the car and which could be for anything when looked upon by a potential thief - and then a part ('Part 2') that attaches to it too - to receive the Tom-Tom - which would be the giveaway.

Does anyone know if the way Part 2 attaches to Part 1 is such that this can be done every time one enters and leaves the car, without stressing any plastic or components?

Windscreen-based systems I suspect is asking for trouble if you fear break-ins (car is often left at a station car park overnight - is so basic and stripped-down of clutter inside - there's currently no incentive for a break-in). Even trying to remove evidence of sucker-prints - will show up the minute the frost arrives, or from mist inside the screen. Wiping the area clean unless you wipe the entire screen every time - will also be a giveaway - leaving characterisitic wipe-marks.

So - any help or tips appreciated!

I don't use the pro clip system, but did research this on the net and decided against it for the same reasons you say, clipping / unclipping / marking plastics, expensive too.

I use a vent mounting kit / bracket. It take seconds to clip and unclip off the event, cost about £10 online (I think the make is Arkon) Can all be removed in 1-2 seconds and no signs a sat nav was ever in the car. Use them on all three of our cars. Never failed, perfect.

If you google 'arkon vent mounting' you'll get the idea.

I have found that the self adhesive velcro you can buy in b n q works fine, and it means you don't need the mounting. Regards Tim
