Has anyone ever attempted the job themselves?

I need all three changed on my '96 4.2 and whilst it looks tight/ fiddly within the chassis, is it that much of a job with access to a pit?

Whether it's a DIY or HHC job, are upgraded or longer lasting bushes available or advised, as it seems 2 of my 3 didn't last long from previous owners dealer fitment

Any advice appreciatied

DeeGee - it's a bloody awful job. I've just completed a job to replace leaking seals on the hydratrak diff for my late 97 4.2 Cerbera. I had to remove the diff. Whilst at it, I took the opportunity to replace the 2 bushes on the brackets attaching the main body of the diff to the chassis (although they looked OK actually). I considered replacing the single bush at the top rear of the diff. It sits in an eye welded directly to the chassis. You certainly need to remove the diff to get at it. But even then, how on earth you're supposed to remove the bush from the chassis I have no idea. You'd need a clever portable press, or something similar (or is there an easier way to press out bushes that I've not come across?). Given the bush actually still looked good on my car I left well alone. If you really need to replace yours, probably not a DIY job. The diff's heavy and has to be lowered down sideways through the chassis rails.

I did this with Joolz once - would never consider on my own - proprietary methods involved but still an utter bastard! If you're lucky and the previous fitter has coppaslipped it up nicely, you might be able to drift out without removing the diff. Otherwise... joy joy joy!

Definitely a job for an independent rather than main dealer though - 5 hours labour for a £20 part!
