Auction Report #5: Manheim Colchester 02 Dec 08
Discussion
The recession is OVER!
You heard it here first. If you're ever asked where you were when you heard the news that the recession-credit-crunch-crash was over, remember it was reading that V8-geezer's auction report.
Why is it over? Because, three weeks before the most impoverished Christmas for 15 years, the motor trade decided to throw around £6m at a load of new stock for their frozen car lots. And not only that, they decided to pay the kind of prices which had me wondering if this sale had the last cars ever, anywhere is the world.
And were the cars they were so desperate to buy all under 1300c? No. They were the kind of 4x4 heavy metal machines any self-respecting PHer would be glad to have in his drive.
[/cynic]
Over 850 cars through 4 auction lanes today. A few bargains; a few goldfish moments as prices exceeded retail levels.
Remember the 07 4.4 V8 Volvo XC90 which went through last week?
The highest bid was £13,600 and I thought that it needed about £15k to buy it. Bumped into the guy who made that bid last week; turns out the reserve was £15.5k. He had offered to increase his bid from £13.6k to £15k but the vendor still refused.
The car was back in today. For sale to the highest bidder. SOLD at £14,000. What a muppet some vendors are! Cheap monster car for someone though!
Once again, I have tried to capture cars which I think might be interesting to PHers plus cars which I have noticed in discussions over the last week.
I managed to grab quite a few pics today, so have reduced many of them to thumbs. If you want to see the photo full size, just quote my post and change the 'thumb' tags to 'pic'.
Apparently we have girls on PH too. So, in the spirit of equality, here's a car for them.

One of my 'bargains of the day'. Ever sat in one of these - it's Club Class front and rear! Phenomenal depreciation makes this a super-attractive car for a growing family on a budget. My local Vauxhall dealer was offering these 07 plate cars (when new) at £16k against a retail of £21k. Now look...

Thanks V8Mate another great post - I am seeing similar out in the market. There appears to be a severe shortage of good big saloons at a reasonable price. My expectations of what I need to spend on the car I want has gone up. I'm not that surprised that prices are not as soft as expected.
