I haven't driven my Griff for 6 weeks and I'm getting more than a little annoyed about it.

Does anyone know where I can get some outer bearings for the output shafts of a GKN diff?
I have tried John Reid and a few of the other "usual suspects" who either couldn't get them this side of Christmas or wanted £90 per bearing - which seems a little on the excessive side since the rest of the bearings are from a Ford P100 pickup truck.

Apparently this particular bearing is made out of hen's teeth, so I am willing to accept bearings with the right outside diameter and height but with an over-size inner diameter so that I can get some collars turned up for the shafts. The first set of such bearings which I bought got lost in the post, (in the same week various friends lost a clutch kit, a set of coilovers and other items... frown )

Can anyone here help? Please!!!

Get the bearing numbers off the old bearings.

Grab Yellow pages
Look up bearing suppliers, such as Bearing Services and get GKN bearings.

They are obsolete bearings, so no main-stream supplier keeps them in stock. Do you think I didn't try that one?

The outer ball baearings on mine were 6207RSR. Are those the ones you mean? I've got a feeling I had to order the double seal ones (62072RSR?) and remove the inner seal.. or something like that.

If you mean the taper bearings, LM501311, I got those from Acorn Industrial Services..

hope that helps..

Thanks Joo.

The bearing number from mine is 543178. They are sealed on both sides, and were made by FAG.

Dave, at that point I already had some bearings in the post to me. Shame they were wrong, and an even bigger shame that the replacements went astray and the replacements for the replacements have taken a fortnight to not arrive already. So I've given up with them.

It's certainly worth a call...
Dave Porter has them in stock, but wasn't able to contact me today to arrange sending them (my company phone provider's fault!). I hope to catch up with him sometime in the next couple of days.

The front seal can be bought at a sensible price from John Reid.

I am indeed replacing the retaining collars, but I had to have new parts made because they didn't appear to be easily available. (Sometimes it's easier to switch the lathe on than phone people...)

Just be careful on these outer bearings.. When I pushed mine onto the output shaft it wouldn't sit all the way down. Had to destroy it to get it off! frown
Turned out the original bearing had been radiused on the inside race to clear the large radius between the drive flange and the output shaft. Had to do the same..
