Typical, not had the car for a week ('99 Passat 2.8 V6) & the airbag warning light has come on.

I have had a quick search on T'internet & it looks like a common problem, due to differing resistances in the contacts.

Has anyone else suffered this problem & does anyone know of a reputable garage near Slough that could look at this. I guess VW will want £85 just to hook it up to VAGCOM frown

Get yourself a copy of Vag com - It will save its cost in no time.

Ideally get the codes read but failing that check the connectors under the seats which seem to be the most common issue. Then try the passenger footwell where a cable can be damaged/corrode. The connector for the passenger dash airbag needs the glovebox removing to access I think - or at least it does on the Audi

As ever - take all appropriate precautions when looking at airbags - they could kill you.

Before you get it into a garage check the plugs underneath the seats.
One might have become disconnected while vacuming.
