Airbag Warning Light

A friend of mine has the airbag warning light illuminated on his 3 series compact (He says it's only come on after his wife drained the battery!) I've heard that it can be reset fairly easily as it is quite common for the light to come on spuriously. Any tips on how to reset, or is he going to have to take it to the dealer?

do they use a special tool or is it something he could do himself?

Has to be plugged in. You can buy the tool from Mac tools for about £70. It works on most cars.
