Hey, just noticed that these both have 177bhp. Is there much difference in the performance? I appreciate that the 4 cylinder will have the 6 licked in terms of fuel economy.

The 525d has more torque I think so will feel quicker and smoother, but you're right 520d wins on economy, and certainly doesn't feel underpowered.

Drive both is the only answer.....

The new 177bhp 520d will be quicker than the old 525d as there is nearly 100kg difference in weight.

The new 525d will remap to 280bhp though if that is your thing.

Also the old 525d will do 27-36mpg in auto guise where as the new 520d will do 34-48mpg doing the same driving.

The 177bhp will remap to 215bhp which puts it up there with the merc E280cdi and the Audi 2.7tdi.
I had the 177bhp 320d touring and that mapped would keep up with my mates A6 3.0tdi quattro avant no problems at all.

Oh, 280 bhp. I like the sound of that. Can the auto boxes take that kind of power? I thought the 535d hhad about the same hp and needed a special gearbox to prevent it leaving gears all over the road like confetti?
