Awesome work. Who is the artist?
Scott Hansler at kinston ink in Portsmouth.

He has around a years waiting list. You can get lucky with taking a cancellation spot but thats luck of the drawer.

It's clearly very well done but, err..., why...?
I don't mean to appear rude but thats not why I posted it. I posted it simply to display the artwork to those who appreciate art in this form. The reasons as to what I got, in what location and for what reason are for me alone to know.

No rudeness observed and none intended, but I just don't get it. Call me a philistine if you will, but I can't comprehend why you'd indelibly (within reason) mark yourself with any design. Your personal design is personal, of course (although it's a little weird if you choose to cover yourself in it, show it off and won't tell anyone why - I'm not saying that's what you are doing BTW), but I'd be grateful to understand why you'd go to the bother of having it done, rather than, for instance, hanging a nice painting on a wall somewhere.

Final piece added for new. About 20 hrs in total over about 3 years. Couldn't be happier with it
Looks absolutely cracking! Although your comments about the ribs is filling me with dread!

One thing I have noticed is that most decent larger scale pieces look to have been done by one artist, with one larger design always in mind. I'm thinking of extending mine down my side/back but am still uncertain about sticking with Kamil for the next bit or going for something ultra realistic. Gut feel says changing artist/style will make it a mishmash but there's natural break in the design at the mo so I would guess it's now or never.

Anyone on here have larger scale work done by different artists/any thoughts?

I can only tell you my reason as such and in so doing please don't think I'm judging others for having there views. For me my tattoos are a depiction of events that have happened within my life. I will always be able to look at them and feel them and have a reminder of the things I have been through in my life.

My tattoos have never personal been about getting one for the sake of owning a piece of "art" I admire the talent thats required to make a good tattoo and also enjoy viewing other peoples work. The last bit is the reason I shared the photo. for the simple reason others may admire the art work not to display something that may "look cool" and for others to copy for the sake of it.

Thats also taken me a few attempts to write, started on the christmas excess already smile

I don't understand why you'd spend money on a piece of art to hang in one room gathering dust, with the possibility of being stuck in an attic by your heirs, or when you tire of it, as opposed to wearing it on your body for others to admire, discuss, provoke thought, comment, argument, and take to your grave with you.

But then I don't get marriage either. Why spend eternity with one person when there's millions of other possibilities out there... wink

Ive got scars. I live with them without a second thought. My tattoos are much the same. Part of my body now.

So I have to ask, why post in this thread then? Why even look if your not interested?

If I see a thread here I don't have interest in I skip past it.

First post in this thread for me...

I've decided I want a tattoo. I've had a frankly st couple of years and I know what I want. It's a personal (to me) quote - the last lines of a poem. Two short lines, 14 words. I know where on me I want it (inside of my left forearm). What should I be looking to pay?

And more importantly, the "form" of the words is important too. I don't want any massively fancy script/font, but I don't know exactly what the font should be. I know I'll know when I see it. Are there any websites you'd recommend that can let me see a "mock up" of how it'd look? I know I can google, but I'd prefer a personal recommendation.

When I go to get it done, how long should it take and how should I "prepare"? I know not to turn up drunk/hungover, but other than that, I don't have a clue.

Cheers in advance.

I'd write the Poem verses out in word or something like that. Simply play with every font available to see if a style flows with the words. The inside of the arm isn't massive so I'd also print off the words in different sizes to see how legible it would be to read it all once on your arm.

Have a good look through google images to see other styles and how different people flow words in that placement.

As for the day. Have a good breakfast, nothing out of the normal from your daily routine. Take with you maybe a energy drink and a chocolate bar or some fruit. Duration depends on the artist. I couldn't possible imagine it taking any longer than 2 hours. The first time consuming bit will simply be them placing the words on your arm and you checking your happy with the placement.

Pre shave what ever area your having done. I never understand why people don't as your simply then going to be paying someone lots of money to waste time shaving you!

I used to hang out in a local tattoo parlour owner was a friend, have a tat that's not visible apart from two tails that run just below the t-shirt line of my arm, it was done by the owner as a 18th b-day gift and was designed by him, it doesn't bother me I mostly forget its there but its a reminder of a time and place,
most of the customers that weren't lifestylers that wanted to stand out, where people that wanted names of loved ones or reminders of lost people etc.
I don't know what the attraction is to tattoos as they are kind of pointless and most are cringe worthy but looking through design books, there are some fantastic artists out there and some of the oldest language's are based on symbols/pictures it doesn't have to be English word stamped on your arm,
I also Have a buddy I refer too as etch-a-sketch grim reapers skulls etc. a bit tacky IMO and at times he agrees as he don't look as he did ten years ago and its affected his employment which I find stupid,
my opinion is its your body do what you like I mightn't agree but hay that shouldn't stop you, I do think a lot of people have ink done just to be ''cool'', but at the same time I've seen proper art-like ink that'd almost make me want some,
and if I ever loose my arm I'll know which one's mine,

If you post up your county or area I will point you in the direction of some good artists. Script on its own can look a bit plain but I understand its personal to you.
