Had the 30,000 mile service yesterday, done at The Garage, Guildford, David Batty's place.

I've got to say top marks to the man. OK, so it's not my local but the price and the service, along with Dave's knowledge was fantastic. All in it came to £495. That included the service (including a waxoyl application), £195, two new front wishbones (approx £120), oil, wiper blades, wishbone mount rings, coolant, re-alinged the passenger door and labour.

The wishbones were pretty rusty and had almost gone through in a couple of places, plus the bushes were shot. All replaced and a full tracking/alignment check revealled a few minor problems, all sorted by the man himself.

The car now drives better, is more stable under braking and feels more planted in the corners.

David is a top guy who was keen to show me what was happening, called me to check that the wishbones should be replaced, showed me the old items, stamped the service book and all of the other basic stuff that should be done at a service that often gets overlooked.

All in all 10 out of 10 and I'll definitely be going back for the 36k 'big one'. Not looking forward to it though as it starts at £425 for the service (including parts and labour).

If you're anywhere near the man, I recommend him.

He was certainly excellent with our Mega-service. The Chim had its 40,000 miler with him including wishbones, new clutch, trim fixings, dash-out fixes of speedo/headlight light, new badges, you name it it got done.

The car is very different - so much better. Really it should have had a new clutch at the 36K but there you go.

Come the spring it'll get its next service with David and a respray so its gorgeous again for the "season"...
