why so amazed ?

a crapp old 7 grand formula ford that looks like a sack of spuds and only had 180bhp would circify both cars

yes Around Brands Indy the last R500 did 51 seconds with a pro driver on board (source: Autocar magazine). The Formula Ford lap record is just under 48 seconds, and a Formula Renault will do about 46 if I remember rightly. Both cars are available for under £10k secondhand, and I don't think they're much more than the R500 brand new. Broadly speaking, with cars you pay for luxury and boot space, not performance.

Of course, neither are road legal, however a road legal Radical SR4 can lap Brands Indy in 47 seconds. (http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/45293/radical_sr4_tracksport.html)

I've absolutely no idea what a Veyron would do around that track, but from seeing other cars my best guess would be about 52 secs.

Indeed amazed!!!!!!!

A Veyron is a 2 tonne Lorry. Basic Power to weight (and being light and nimble within that power to weight) is what gives most of a lap time on a track with a moderate amount of corners and braking.

250mph is just stuff for the Pub bragging rights for punter that buy these Daft things. (I would not have one if I won Big).

I think it's a much bigger challenge to get Veyron levels of performance out of a Veyron than a Caterham.
