The boot (window part) on my E46 touring keeps opening up of it's own accord, usually a couple of minutes after setting off.
Also, occasionally a fault shows on the dash telling me there is a light out/fault. When I look at the car with side lights on, the indicator is on (not flashing), turn to full beam and problem go's away but still shows on dash.
Turn lights on before starting and there is no fault at all.

Are there any known electrical problems with the E46? Will a simple disconnection of the battery help?

Many thanks.

Wiring damage on the harness inside the rubber boot/tube going from the body to the tailgate isn't uncommon.

An easy no visit to main dealer for trouser removal fix?

Is there any way of locking this part of the tailgate? The remote only opens the window part and not the whole boot as I would prefer.
