If the car is locked and I pull on the drivers door handle, it turns the interior lighting on.

So the tea leaf can admire my disklok I presume? biggrin

It's an e36 thing, rather than just M3: the switch is part of the locking mechanism, if you "de-lock" it, the function's lost, if you want it gone.

Not sure what the benefits are, it may be just because the courtesy lights switch through the handle, rather than a pin switch in the door shut. I find it handy for a "last thing at night" - doors locked, radio faceplates off check.

I think they all do that don't they? Had an e36 Evo and a e36 320 before it which both did it - one was convertible, other tin top...

its got the winter pack, when you pull the handle it warms up the locks

I thought all 90's bimmers did this?

Certainly my M3 did it and both my E34's also IIRC.

My 325i had it, and the heated locks - until I ripped out all the interiour.

The M5 does this. I can't remember if my M3 does it, cos i've not driven it for a while, thats about to change, because i've broken the M5, again hehe
