Arnie,

What colour is the green on your car?

As seen here http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/ianjames1958/WingsWh...

Is it Kawasaki Green?

Kawasaki Green is quite dull compared to the colour on my car, and was a bit to ordinary for my taste.

Its a special blend, but Tony the Brush knows the paint codes, but it was a pig to put on, and the material was very expensive. A Sevn in that coloour would be £2500-£3000 for the paint job, the there is the risk that its flourescent which means you must keep the car in the dark or it'll fade very quickly.

You can get a flourescent base coat for about £100 a litre. The way to make sure it doesn't fade is use a UV resistant laquer. It needs a special primer too)

I'm suprised it cost that much, I've done an orange one for a shade over a grand. Although it's a little battle scarred form the race season you're welcome to have a look at it

Thanks for the offer...unfortunately I'm in N.Ireland so can't drop over for a look.

I'm after a real bright strong green colour, not necessarily glow in the dark ;o) Thanks for the info on the UV laquer, I'll bear it in mind if I go that route.

Kawasaki Green, as on a 2008 ZX-10R is spot on, but any 7 I've seen in Kawa Green tends to look a bit pale and not as strong. I'd like a colour that is like Arnie's green in the link above, and stays that colour all the time.

How does that work? Don't flourescent substances work by absorbing UV and re-radiating the energy as light in the visible spectrum? Presumably a UV-resistant lacquer protects by absorbing UV....so there wouldn't be as much getting through to damage the paint, therefore less to re-radiate. Perhaps that is it - the flourescence is less bright but the paint lasts longer.

Must get out more...a lovely Boxing Day morning, but wife is at work on call, and the first teenagers are only just emerging from their slumbers...perhaps in a year or two when I have either a C-ham or Lotus.

Incorrigible, there are flourescent paints which last a couple of years, some, last much longer. Mines been on my car for 3 1/2 years and shows no signs of fading. This is the 3rd time its been painted in a flourescent colour. When it was oragne all over using a Glasurite system it needed a full respray after 4 years.

The paint system on my car today used 8 litres of colour and a similar amount of UV resistive lacquer, so material costs are high. I belive it was around £1200 in materials. The cage also makes the finished job expensive.
