E39 Touring, spare wheel well?

Hi,
hoping someone can hel i've been to view an '02 e39 530i Touring, has a weeping rocker cover gasket (known issue) but we idled with the fan on full and there was a faint smell of oil would this be associated with leak? some msiting in the compartment too

also in the spare wheel well was some sort of dome with wires leading to drivers side of boot, full size wheel still fitted in well so not lpg afaik, i didnt have a look for lpg input anyone any idea what it might have been?

It would probably have been the compressor for the rear air-suspension that you saw in the wheel well.
