I have an E46 330Cd M Sport. Recently, within the last week, i've been having problems with the door/window closing mechanism and need your thoughts as to the potential fault/s.

Basically when you unlock the car and open the drivers side door the window will drop down quarter of an inch to allow the door to open and close and to equalise the pressure in the cabin when you close the door. So you then sit in the car as normal close the door and the window will then go up the quarter inch and your good to go. Well whats happening at the moment is i get the "door open" warning light come up on the dash then the window drops down and the interior lights come on as though you were opening the door to get out. The window starts going up and down that initial quarter inch increment and the door open warning light keeps flashing on and off. I've now also realised that when you lock the car from the outside and walk away the window still wants to go down that initial quarter inch (thinking the door is about to be opened) and the alarm goes off. Repeat this process 6/7 times today alone. Its booked in with my local dealer (Coopers) for their next available slot on Tues 30th.

Any thoughts, i thought it might be a dodgy/damp window/door solenoid....the dealer over the phone seemed a bit puzzled. My only conern is that i'm having to leave the car unlocked to stop the alarm being activated by the window going up and down of its own accord.

Thanks in advance for any ideas...

Did you check the switch that tells the car the door is closed? It's probably not that hard to get at. If you can get it out, take the connections off the back and try open/close circuiting it to see if the car locking/window then behaves properly. If it's your switch, it's going to just cost a few quid to get a replacement and fit yourself.
