Dead easy, just cut a couple of holes in the rear bulkhead and stick then through. It's very easy in the S because the petrol tank isn't in the way. YOu can trim up the rear basket of the speakers inside the boot if you want with a bit of grey acoustic carpet. Rich...

I made a box to fit onto the rear parcel shelf with a couple of connectors on and ran a lead from the back of the head unit under the carpet.

I did this as I didn't fancy chopping the bulkhead about - also makes it easier if you want to take then out.

I shaped the bottom of the box to fit behind the arches to hold the box in place. The box is trimmed in black carpet so it matches the interior.

Hope this helps.

Alternatively, at the risk of being controversial, just fit better front speakers. With an interior the size of a TVR you DO NOT require rear "fill" speakers. The only speaker type that I would fit through the rear bulkhead is a 10" subwoofer.

If you want to hear what is possible with just a set of Dynaudio 6" and tweeters in the doors, drop me an email next time you are down Heathrow way. You'll be suprised.

I keep on toying with fitting a sub but would want to fit it behind the carpet for stealth/anti-theft reasons. To your average low-life a sub = good system = break in and nick it. If you are going to do this the best time is when you have the carpet off.

Have fun
Kevin

Ah well I took a different attitude, because I like rear speakers as well as in the doors. Regards your comment about a 10" sub, I fitted a pair of 7" 3 x way speakers no problem and clearly a pair of 6x9's would go in ok. The TVR has a chassis so the body is not structural so I was not worried about cutting a couple of holes in the rear bulkhead. Ultimatly it's up to the individual but structurally and size wise there are no issues. Rich...

My S had 2x 6x9's in the Rear Bulkhead, fitted by the previous owner, and an AMP bolted through it in between

Depends what you want to spend. A pair of decent 13cm speakers should fit in the doors as is, something like Infinity would be a good brand to fit.

If you want to go for component speakers (ie seperate tweeters then you will need to house them somewhere, so extra holes in the doors or custom built pods in the doors. These will sound better but expense goes up.

A lot will depend on the quality of your head unit, power output, and if you want to use an amp as much as the speakers themselves. (and if you prefer to hear the pop-bang from the speakers at the very back!)

Bit up to individual taste this one. pop along to your local ICE shop and get them to show you what you can get and for how much.

Best Luck

To be honest I’d go with rear speakers, I found the sound is much better, in the S I had infinity 6” rear speakers which were rather good, in the Griff I’ve got a pair of 8” Pioneers, they are even better and provide good vocals and excellent bass response.

I can never hear the rear speakers with the top down as the roof muffles them.

Besides that damn exhaust is soooooo loud.

Edited to at some thing constructive, mine had rear speakers from new, as a personal view, if it didn't have them I would have fitted them.

Got some rears in mine, as well as the fronts... the Pioneer MD looks pretty, but above 40mph it kinda gets drowned out...

Fitted 13cm Infinity Kappa's in my doors and the improvement over the original Pioneers is amazing, having a flatter response rather than a po-oriented bass bias. Having recently upgraded head-unit the sound is even better, and with more power output they cope very well and produce enough volume for roof-off trips on a windy day on the wrong side of the law

These have a seperate cross-over so you can wire up a seperate tweeter later on should you so wish.

Be warned that the wiring for both the head unit and speakers is a nightmare, so I'd imagine that re-cabling the door speakers would be of benefit also.

Thanks for your advise
I am going to stop on the way home to get some speakers
So what size will fit in the original holes? Is it the 13cm
I have a rather nice Sony single CD in there at the moment so i am sure a good set of fronts should be alot better!

Take them out and check first...

I assumed mine were 13cm as everyone said that's what S's always had so got 13cm Kappas, then when I took off the Pioneers I found them to be 16cm, so I could have got larger Kappas!

As the door leather goes neatly around the cuttings and there was just one set of original holes I assume there must have been some larger speakers in the factory the day mine was made.

Fair enough, my impatience is what did me too.

Then once I tested them I couldn't be bothered to wrap them back up and take them back.
