Just talking to a diesel independent service bod.

He reckons the newest technology in diesel injectors costs £800 a throw.

These things are controlled by exciting crystals with electrickery, thus allowing them to squirt at a very rapid rate of knots.

They're only used by Mercedes and BMW at the moment, but it appears all new engines will have to go that way in order to meet EU emissions standards.

If this is true, it looks as though the global warming scam is going to price diesels out of existence.

Anybody know more....?

Yep, they're called Piezo injectors. I know they're pricey but not sure about 800 quid mind you. Might be the manufacturers markup coming into play there

They'll be £800 (or whatever high price) if you buy one from an autofactors, they won't be £800 to the manufacturers who are ordering 200,000 a year though. Also as more are used by car makers more are made and the price decreases.

They are probably Delphi injectors.

Contatc Delphi direct and find out where you can get one.

You will have to get a dealer to inputthe new C2I codes to your ECU but I know of other manufacturers who use delphi injectors in a Merc (ish) engine and the are half that price retail.

Delphi Diesel Aftermarket Systems Ltd are in Warwick 01926 472957

ETA

Piezo injectors are used on all common rail systems from Ford to SsangYong

I was told the other day by some poor sod that Peugeot wanted £400 x 4 for new injectors for his 407 diesel. Isn't that more than the cars worth?

Modern diesels are evil things

Diesel engines should be slow and noisy and easily fixed with a hammer

Mk3 Mondeo is £250 each, when you consider the TDCi's are 2003 onwards and they're trading around the £2k mark you have to wonder if it's worth it. Same with the dual mass flywheel

This is why the cheap diesel cars are going to die off quickly, all it takes is an injection pump or set of injectors and the cars worthless, cheaper to just scrap the thing. It's not a very green way of going about motoring compared to the old days where you could keep an old petrol banger going on a sixpence.

I've got a cracking diesel injector specialist local to me, £150 for 6 reconditioned on my BMW - made the car feel like new again with more power, smoother and better fuel economy. If anyone's diesel has done over 100k I'd seriously recommend having them done.

PM me if you want more details.

Out 54 plate TGA's are now showing an EDC fault, which is the injectors, so I was told. The local MAN fitter's are quoting £800 per injector.

So that's 6 injectors for each truck and with 40 TGA's at our depot, that's one heck of bill!

These must be mechanical injectors, not electronic ones!

Admitedly so, but whilst I was chatting to the bloke that runs the place about these allegedly expensive injectors in the VW PD engines they can do them for not a lot more than I paid.
