I'm mortified to find that my chinese soft-shelled turtle - described in the the literature as a voracious and aggressive carnivore - whose relatives are happily munching their way through the river fauna of the north-western US states as an invasive species - is frightened of APPLES.

I read on the turtle forum (how sad is that wink ) that he would enjoy punching a floating apples around his tank and it would give his jaws good exercise - so I put one in - result - he hid from it...

Now now, you remember what happened with the tiger. The judge said no more than 2 stick insects at a time.

The rabbit forum probably said they would make good playmates...

(Just goes to show - you can't believe everything people tell you on forums)

Has he ventured out for a better look yet? Unfair to call him a coward, he's right to be wary. They haven't invaded successfully for all this time by taking unnecessary risks and failing to suss out danger, you know.

Indeed, but as he is on his own in tank, his sexuality (regardless of choice) must go unfulfilled.
