2004 - 2006 model cars - are engine components different

Hi

Are engine components on 2004-2006 cars slightly different to earlier models? I'm aware of the engine recall that was carried out on all 2001 to 2003 M3 cars affected by the engine failure issue relating to sub-standard engine bearings and oil pump. I've done extensive searching on this but not found an answer to the following question: did BMW change the engine bearings on all later 2004 onward cars before they come out of the factory as well as fit different oil pumps? What other engine component differences are in the later 2004 onward model cars compared to earlier ones to make them more reliable, if anything?
