Hot or cold, it's always the same.

Third gear takes a bit of 'know how' (it needs a little 'jerk' to the right side of third, please), not so good for the misses or a forgetful overtake.

Forth gear, if you are too quick there is a very faint grinding noise (not so, if you are slow selecting). I think maybe syncro?

Other gears are fine. Once you get to know the 'box then you can live with it but it can be a tad annoying.

There is (or was, can't find it now) a selector bush over-haul kit on flea-bay.

Any further thoughts on this problem?

Thanks.

Sounds like the remote linkage bushes need replacing. Get a firm grip of your gear lever and check for vertical movement.
Replacing them is fiddly but inexpensive, I think Rimmers do a bush kit.

There is indeed much up and down movement in the gear selector!

(might as well replace the non-existant gearbox mounts too whilst I'm at it too!)

Fingers crossed for a simple and cheap cure for your problem then.

Hye Peak torque, i had almost exactly the same thing! Mainly when i was giving total beans...

I bought the little bushes (as mentioned above) but still havent got round to fitting them as i found a short term fix! If you change while 'gently' taking the weight off the gear shift, the chrunch vanishes!!

Strangly enough the bushes must have been re aligned by driving like this as its now 100% sorted...strange!

I would try that but my gear-knob would fall off into my hand! Another problem to sort.

I have been out on a good hack this morning and have been performing near-perfect gearchanges. Its now a devoloped art wink.

Thanks.
