Programming an A6 key????

Hi all, the outlaws have a 2002 A6 3ltr petrol avant. Both of the remote key fobs have stopped working (despite having new batteries put in them) does anyone know how to do this? The manual is so ambiguous you don't have a chance of interpretation (probably on purpose to force you to the stealers) Thanks!
