hiya people,
im 14 and my dad brought me a mk3 polo genesis to work on whilst im at college. I have decided to get the car mot'd and taxed and then sell it to get something else after id done working with it.
It is in very good condition and has only got 87k on the clock and starts everytime without smoking.
As on one side of the car the rub strips are missing im considering removing them on both sides and smoothing the panels. but being 14 and not having much experience with bodywork i dont know what this will involve.
So can someone please give me step by step instructions ??
if possible i will also try and upload some photos when i have some and when i know how.
thanks

Afraid I can't help but I did have the same car as my first car. Had the hatchback 1.05 litre and whilst it won't set any speed records it was a perfect car to learn in and gain my no claims bonus.

I would recommend not removing the strips as they came in handy the amount of times people would hit my car openning their doors.

Instead concentrate on maintaining the engine and servicing it and keeping the bodywork as good condition as possible.

depends which model you have, some have rubbing strips which are glued on some have plastics clips so if you remove the rubbing strips you are left with a row of holes.

If yours glue on then remove them and remove any sticky residue after using tar remover or similar.

If you have the trim clips then it is easier to get a new piece of trim . Have a look on polo3.co.uk - its aimed at mk2/3 polo owners an has plenty of info.

For what it is worth at 14 since you cant drive for some years in less you want to practice your mechanical skills an the like why have a car? and if you are intending on learning bodywork an mechanical skills isnt the idea you start with something cheap that if you wreck it isnt the end of the world? Why bother to upgrade the polo, you clearly cant have driven it to decide if its a good or bad car/
