Breakers may have them, but you'll need to look long & hard !

Blackman motors (based in Kent) occasinally get new cars through their yard, and they do mail order, so it may be worth a quick call (they are only open 9-5 Monday to Friday)

I would be very careful with that one, it looks like it is in a touran, IIRC the golf radio is a slightly different fitting to the touran, as is the touareg/phaeton unit. When replacing a radio, we have to code the new unit in, they may work without coding in, but cant guarantee it.

Just be very careful as you may end up spending a lot of money and ending up with nothing. Check ukmk-ivs.net, somebody may have definate yes/no answers

The older (2003 era) Touran radios are a differnt fitting to the Golf, but the one in that picture looks fine. £400 is a bargain, would have cost more than triple new.

Why were you dicounting ebay? (Just wondered if you had a bad experience?) Got mine from there cica £350 iirc, like new, fitted it within 20mins....

Just make sure it comes with the DVD - some sellers don't include this in the bundle....

I was thinking about getting one of these for my mk5 gti. My worry is that the new unit will not work with my armrest ipod dock (aux?) and the highline display? Also - where you put the antenna for the satnav?(and does it double as the radio aeriel as well?)

If your car has RCD300/RCD500 and you are swapping it for the MFD2 discussed here your iPod dock should still work. However if you change to the RCD510/RNS510 I think the connector is slightly different.

MFD2 works fine with highline (full height display between dials)

You can put the antenna where you want, most put it behind the air vents iirc.

It dosent double as the radio aerial, you still use your existing one for that.

Thanks for that. Yes i have the standard Golf GTI RCD 500 (i believe). The MFD2 is the DVD version if im correct, not the touch screen (RCD510)?. What was the older CDROM version called? Finally i heard that fitting a new unit can affect the car electrics and sap battery if the car is left unused?

I'm not sure about the CD version, I thought all MFD2s where DVD based. The older MFD for the MK4 Golf might have been CD based.

The touchscreen version (RCD510/RNS510) is very different and stores the maps on its hard drive.

Not sure about affecting the cars electrics or battery, I haven't heard of that sorry. Might be worth checking UK-Mkivs or the Golf GTI Forums.
