Help! Where to locate E39 M5 engine no

Can anyone suggest where actual engine no is shown?

not sure on the actual engine, possibly on the bottom end?

but its normally written on the V5, if you dont have one, then DVLA can tell you.

It's underneath cyl 1 intake port, left hand bank from the front view

That makes it a real pain in the ass

Thanks. Have just spoken to my maindealer who suggests they dont use the engine no - only the VIN no which fully identifies car and engine etc??

yea, from the VIN, the dealer has access to all the numbers and serials for all of the bits of the car.

All BMW need to know is the last 7 digits of the vin, which will be 2 letters and 5 number.
