Hi. Following a recent post on BC, Peter C recommended specific oils for ATB and non plate LSDs, GL4 from memory. He said these were not to be used in plate diffs.

Does anyone have any knowledge what *type* (rather than brand) of oil would be the best choice? I suppose Phil @ R&R may be worth a call?

ZF Plate types work perfectly well and suffer no side effects using standard Castrol EP80/90 oil. Mines only had one set of plates in 15 years of hard use on this type of oil.

i.e. stick with GL4 rather than move to GL5 (or 6)?

I understand the sulphur content present in most GL5 oils can attack the brass metal parts in diffs?

Phil recommended a Ford oil part number 1121457. I have just ordered it and should collect today. He said if I couldn't get that then the Castrol LSD specific oil would be good - I guess that is the one Dave has linked to above.
N.B. this is for the Titan diff which is a plate type
