Hi, I'm just in the process of getting a set of winter tyres for my chim, and could do with some help.. i think i've heared the 4 hole alloys are based upon the Ford sizes... is this true?
Local Tyre specialist isn't sure ref new set of alloys, and tyre sizes... can't blame him, he's never seen a TVR, and in germany most ppl don't short cut, or second guess... everything here has to be able to fit legally, just as they fit, doesn't mean you can use them.... stupid rules, but unfortunately i have to abide by them.
i'm currently running :
225/50/15 on the front
245/45/16 on the rear

if i get a set of 15's all round should i be ok with 225/50's ?
as with 16's will 225/50's be ok too, i.e. not messing up handling set up.

any help appreciated.

Jeff

I assume yours is basically the same as the UK cars, so they are standard Ford 4" centers. You also need to get the wheel diameter, width and offset right. It sounds as if you're heading for 16" diameter 7.5" width all round, which is reasonable (its what I use on the V8S, and was used for the last few Griffiths). A 225/50 tyre fits this rim width nicely. The offset is probably going to be either 1.25" or 35mm, the difference is not enough to matter. (Sorry to mix metric and imperial, but that's how they come!)

Hope this helps,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

Sorry for not replying as soon as, just got a bit busy, thanks so much for the help. Yes, you were right, mine is a UK car which i recently bought on a trip there.
ref the tyre center, i spoke with him today... yet more problems... due to all this red-bloody tape, i would need to get the winter tyres approved for my car... now, with it being a non-german car, i may have difficulties... can anyone come up with a solution on this one? they're saying something about an "a.b.e." basically a piece of paper saying those wheels and tyres are allowed to go onto the Tiv.
Point to mention, in germany "if it fits, then it's ok to put on" holds no ground with the BiB. Anything, and i mean ANYTHING not standard on your car, wether a new set of alloys, air filter, leccy windows HAS to be put on the "Brief" (equiv of V5).
Any documentation anywhere that oficially states that mine are standard 4" Ford equiv?

Thankyou again peter

I think you need to talk to your local TUV office. I have a letter from them permitting changes (weight rating) for My Discovery. ADAC may be able to explain the process to you.

I'd guess you would be limited to factory fitted tyre sizes though, could fit 4 spacesavers....
