Guys what sort of issues are there on over 100k 320d 6speed engines and gear boxs considering one as a daily driver.

I know about the flaps in the inlet manifold, are there any other bits I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance

Auto or manual?

Swirl flaps (upto 2005)
Crankcase breather filter probably never been changed.
injector failures (non start)
turbo failures or rare occassions
heater resistor pack(hedgehog)
Clutch judder (manual) dual mass flywheel.
Strange vibration/buzz through cabin at light throttle, slight incline in road at 80-120kmh - auto, tends to be 5 speed but have had two 6 speed do that. Program issue.
Free play in front lower arm ball joints.

Having said that, my 03 plate is on 152k miles and still feels pretty much like new... There may be a few dodgy ones out there, but others seem to be excellent!

In some ways the problem is that the 320d was too successful - more were sold than Mondeos at the time, so it means any problems will appear wider spread than on more niche models, and from what I can tell BMW owners are more likely to post on motoring websites...

What's the reason for this? I have this, I thought it meant the clutch was on the way out (first occured at 72k but still going ok at 141k now)?

I shall have to look into the swirl flaps, what are they? Any preventive maintenance recommended? Same for the hedgehog??
