X3 advice sought
Discussion
Hi folks,
My mother is keen to buy a nearly new x3 very soon, and has asked me(as the family carnut) for some advice. I dont know a whole heap about them, so thought I would ask here:
- when is the model likely to be replaced?
- she wants a petrol auto (2.5?), is this the one to go for?
- how hard is she likely to be able to push the dealer on this car at this time?
- any particularly desirable options she should look out for?
Many thanks

I'd suggest a long test drive in one first as the ride and build quality have both been up for question on more than one occassion.
Aside from that it's probably a cheap way to get a baby X5... there's much better value and quality in that class of vehicle if she was prepared to look at other marques though.
If none of that phases her and she enjoys the test drive then I'd suggest a minimum of leather, PDC, Xenons, Professional SatNav. Everything else is more a question of your own wants rather than anything that will affect resale... IIRC depreciation on X3's is pretty much the worst in the range so maybe worth setting some expectations there too...
... oh dear reading that I don't sound positive at all...erm.... the 3.0sd is a good engine....

I disagree with everything Dubbs just said, bar the depreciation comments. We tried a honda crv, vw tiguan, and a nissan thing before settling on a X3. 08 plate. Our 2ltr d has amazing fuel economy compared to anything else aswell so pay attention to MPGs (if this is important to your mum?) Above everything else the interior build is streets ahead of everyone else, as you would expect from a BMW. I don't know what the build quality fuss is all about albeit it seems to be a pretty common read regarding the X3. Ours feels bulletproof and my parents have owned one for 3 years and its never missed a beat. Maybe I'm missing something but I cant find it !!
