Auction Report #9: Manheim Colchester 13 January 2009
Discussion
Hi all.
Very busy auction today; large number of cars, big crowd of buyers and almost everything selling. Whether the trade are paying top whack (and more?) for everything or whether the vendors are demanding lower reserves, I'll leave that up to you to debate.
Major sale of Lexus and Toyota cars today. They are such boring cars to look at though, so I stuck it out on the Lexii for a while, but couldn't face coming back for the Toyotas. Sorry.
I have more Lexus prices than I have posted, so do ask if there's a particular age/spec you're after and I'll see if I got a price for one.
Coming up soon
Don't forget the next Prestige Sale on Tuesday 10th February. Would be great to see some of you there if you can spare the time.
The cars are starting to arrive already; here's a taster!
So, onto today's results. As always, I have tried to capture as broad a selection as possible. Over 1000 cars through 4 lanes today, so I couldn't get to everything. I try and spot the nice stuff, but if your dream car is a Peugeot 407 or a Corolla Verso do let me know and I'll make a point of looking out for them for you.
To save repeated questions, car prices are marked as:
SOLD - you pay this price plus a buyer's premium of 4-5%.
Provisional - you are the highest bidder but haven't met the reserve. Manheim will try and broker a deal between you an the vendor (either you move up or the vendor moves down). You are bound to buy the car if the vendor moves his reserve down to your bid, but are not bound to offer any extra. (Plus buyer's premium as before)
Submit Highest Bid (SMB) - The vendor has not left a reserve but has asked the auction house to submit the highest bid to him for his consideration. You are bound to buy the car if your highest bid is accepted. (Plus buyer's premium as before)

Good work again V8, interesting to see the Lexus market, one that I have no experience in.
I was at an auction today, again mightily busy. It is noticeable how much more a well prepared or tidy car is making compared to a bitty one.
If I was a retail punter I would be focusing on the cars with decent history but a bit edgy, much more value here than the nice one.

Great stuff,
Let me be the first to say well done once again.
I have followed your reports, all of them,.
I am yet to see a Land Cruiser go through.
Either the LC3,LC4, or LC5 or the bigger brother Amazon.
These LC are from 2003, and the Amazon from 1998.
If you have any information on what they are selling for in auction, please let me know.

There were four Landcruisers through today as part of the 200+ Toyotas. Unfortunately I had switched to the Ford Credit lane at that time.Let me bew the first to say well done once again.

Nice work again. What was the full story behind the S-type diesel that went to a private punter?
At £14k, he paid exactly the same as he would have done at a main Jag dealer! Before haggling! I hope he never finds out for the sake of his sanity.

Great work, again.
Is it me or are prices sureing up?
Definitely. The vendors are setting sensible reserves but, more often than not, the buyers are exceeding them by a fair margin. Is it me or are prices sureing up?
The trade must feel confident about the future, though, as a lot of the prices they are going to have to charge on the forecourts well exceed the public price guides (Wisebuyers, Parkers etc). They'll have to justify their screen prices against Joe Public armed with such guides. which is fine, as long as they are sensible about trade-in values too.

No story. Just a retired couple who wanted to buy a car. Plus they'll be looking at another £600-700 in fees.At £14k, he paid exactly the same as he would have done at a main Jag dealer! Before haggling! I hope he never finds out for the sake of his sanity.

Bear in mind it takes two parties to lift a price, though!

Great report as always, as an RX8 owner those prices were better than I thought.
Those XJ's were lovely though
Yep; but seemed to be £1500-2000 dearer than pre-Christmas. Independent traders have been swamped by main dealer buyers since New Year though; I guess they can afford to pay that little bit more. Those XJ's were lovely though
