I have a e60 530i

The standard rear tyres are 275/35/18

A friend has some brand new 285/35/18s which I can have....but I dont know if fitting bigger tyres on the rear will adversely effect the car in any way...

Can these tyres be fitted without any problems arising?

Thanks!!

It might mess up your traction control, ABS, tyre pressure monitoring systems.

Newer cars don't like getting different sized tyres to what they were expecting

Yep, 275 as standard are rather fat!! But I stand the chance to get these tyres for next to nothing and they are brand spanking new, so I thought I need to at least investigate the possibility

I certainly dont want to upset the traction control etc!

285's will go on fine if you have the standard 18" alloys AFAIK as they're already supplied with different widths rims front and rear. Newer cars have the same size tyres front & rear!

Switching to the 285/35 18 wont affect your gear ration much as ur speedo will read 60mph but u will actually be travelling at 60.6mph. Not sure with regards to the handling however as long as the tyres fit the rims then shouldnt be a problem
