fumes in the car...
Discussion
can anyone confirm or otherwise regarding 'fumes' in the car?.Not pertol fumes nor carbon monoxide fumes!(Doesnt make you sleepy!!)
I have a 'fumey' type smell that creeps into the car, via the air vents i think, a sort of 'hot engine' type of smell, (not oil burning fumes either!). If i have driven the car and its warm, (normal warm, as in not overheated),and i have stopped, and got out of the car i can smell the fumes sometimes wafting from the vent at the back of the bonnet, but i can, although seem to be more use to it now, smell it sometimes in the car. The missus says "how do you put up with it?"...i just smile and say "its a road going racing car...wot do you expect!!"
do you have similar fumes? is this normal? do you think i should investigate further?
Only had car for a few weeks, so getting to know slowly whats seems right and wot seems wrong!

Also have a slight oily smell, only noticeable when heater on. Had the car for a year and couldn't find the 'source', however.....just having the head gasket replaced and they said there was a small oil leak from the headgasket so could be the source! Should get the car back next week so will post result. Hopefully your smell is something else!!
I have an oily smell, mine is coming from small drops of oil leaking from the bowl under the drivers side airbox.
These drops get blown onto the manifold and burnt off, however because they are only small drops it's more like a fume type smell than burning oil.
Could this be what you are smelling?

Sounds very similar to my car. I get a hot engine whiff in the cockpit too. Like hot metal... doesn't seem to be CO or exhausty. (By the way be careful I think CO is odourless. If you start going cherry red and sleepy get out sharpish.)
I also get hot air coming from round the handbrake but no idea what that's about.
I'll get the car in with APM after I get back from hoiday and investigate both.

I've had fumes entering my car via the handbrake too. The garage has taken a look and has just told me that the cats were getting so hot they were close to catching fire
They’re currently looking into fuelling as they think this may be the reason behind it.
Just looked up the cost of replacing the cats from previous threads on here I've checked my warranty and if it does come to this then I should be covered.
Still, could be just the excuse I have been looking for to de-cat
