Hi all

Does anyone know of a good auto electrician in Bolton?

I went out for a ride yesterday and after stopping at the garage my alarm turned itself on. Unfortunately when I tried to turn it off the fob didn't work. I was hoping it was because of electrical interference at the station so I pushed the bike further up the road. I don't know why I bother having an alarm as nobody did anything to stop me as I pushed my bike up the road with the alarm blaring away!

I changed the fob battery but much to my embarrassment I had to call out the AA. They couldn't sort it out so brought the bike home for me.

So now I just want the alarm disabling. I've had a look on various sites that have explanations about doing it but I'll be honest, they may as well have been in Greek.

Does anyone know of a mobile auto electrician in the Bolton area that will know how to disable the alarm. My bike is a Thundercat and I'm not sure if the fairings will need to be removed.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

It's likely nobody stopped you because you would presumably have been in riding gear and carrying a lid. Had you been four hoodies with a bottle of cider and a Thundercat you'd have been a bit more suspect, so don't be too down on alarm systems.
If you're not technical then no amount of explanations is going to help you; as you say you need a competent auto electrician or electronics techie... unfortunately. In essence to disable the unit you need to identify two or more likely 4 wires that have been cut and re-routed through the alarm and reinstate these to restore the ignition system, and then identify and pull the fuse that feeds the alarm itself.
I'd offer to help but I'm sure there will be someone 100 miles closer to you than I am smile

As above really. If you are able to get the fairings etc off have a look and see if you can find the unit. Then you need to trace its wires and cut them and reinstate the original wireing loom.It can be done if you spend some time on it.I have done it before and marked all the wires with masking tape and numbered them then cut the unit out completely then sat there and worked out what wires need to go where.

It might be that the fuse for the alarm has blown and it thinks it is being tampered with .

It is a small flat car like fuse, sorry I dont know the tech. term.

Have you thought it might be your key fob thats faulty. That happened to me last year 230 miles away from home. Fortunately I managed to turn it off and get home without activating the alarm again.

Thanks for the thoughts, much appreciated. I'm gonna take the fairings off to see if anything becomes obvious but I think I'll be calling on an expert before I make things worse.

Thanks again
