I turned the big 30 last week and the guys at work got a newbie track experience on my bike round Knockhill. I was beaming all day long. Couldn't have asked for anything better.
Has anyone done this? I've still class myself as a novice on the bike so I'm a little nervous as to what to expect.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I know I will be taken though the training but I would like to hear your experiences, good or bad.

Stay relaxed, listen to the instructor carefully and don't forget to eat, drink and breathe during the day! Have fun!

Staying relaxed is the best advise, and dont eat to much or it will slow you down.

Knockhill?

Take your waterproofs.

And a flask of hot soup.

Aside from listen to the instructors and take it easy - my only other advice would be to avoid the first session immediately after lunchtime.

In my experience with many car trackdays, people go mad after lunch - in a rush to get back out after the hour break and want to get track time. Tyres, brakes etc are all cooled down and the drivers are out of the rhythm - seen a few incidents as a result.

Give it a short while to let them get it out of their systems (and have any accidents that they want to), then get back out yourself.

Yep its at Knockhill. It has been known for the weather to be nice but I have yet to see this. Fingers crossed eh.
The only issue I may have is my bike has been lowered (I am a short arse) so there may be an issue with grinding the pegs. Ha! Who am kidding. It's very doubtful that I will have the bike tipped over enough, unless I'm coming off it.

If you do start grinding your pegs, hang off more and stick your knee down instead. thumbup

Ah, That's given me a good excuse to buy some leathers. Would have to make sure I got my knee down then. I fear my friends would take the mick if I came back from a track day with unscratched sliders.

Not that attitude to have, if you manage it then great, if not no big deal.

Getting your knee down will be a piece of piss on a dry track you shouldn't have any problems as long as the weather's good.

To be honest, I'm treating it as a day to hone in those skills I already have. I don't care much for the speed, but what I do like is taking a corner perfectly, where everything you've done is spot on. I don't see myself as a knee down person but you never know.

IIRC don't you HAVE to have leathers for a track day? Never done one so not sure hopefully someone will tell you.

BTW enjoy the day.
P.S are you riding your bike or hiring?

Yep, must have leathers which are either one piece or have a near full connecting zip. Need leather gloves too, even if it's raining, most TDO's won't allow winter gloves.
