Yep, Mk1 Pilgrim Bulldog. Brilliant fun for 7 years all weathers, have posters of it on my wall and very fond memories.

Paul,
So do I!!! Lots of fond memories .

Those Bulldogs were brilliant little cars – weren’t they. On the road for few bucks, technically basic but went like the clappers (once the overheating was fixed). Easy build.

Of all the kit cars I produced the early Bulldogs are still tops for me.

Did you know that it was 18 years ago? Lots of water under the bridge.

Den.
PS. Thanks for the Oxygen percentage figure. It sounds about right to me.

Quite agree, went well, handled with excellent feedback you could feel everything. Big fan on radiator to keep it cool, no problems, easy and cheap to maintain. Most of my mechanical knowledge grew from that car. It was a car that screamed FUN mind you it was bl**dy cold in winter - frozen tears but big

I'm not ashamed to say that I did shed a tear when I sold it. Can't believe its 18 years (but you're right) getting old...

Yer basic atmosphere is 78% sawdust, 21% ears and arseholes and 1% chickens lips.

Err, hold on. That's Tesco's Premium sausages

Same figures but substitute nitrogen, oxygen and 'other gasses'.

I believe the scientific types quote 210,000 parts per million though I read the other day that research had shown a drop of 2 ppm. How the feck can they measure that?

Why Den? What you burnin'?

I ain’t burnin’ nothin’ partner! But…..

Next issue of Kit Car has a feature on rolling road tuning of engines in which 02 levels are said to be 10%. Didn’t sound right to me

Well that s a coinsidence! Under normal circumstances, an engine inducts a charge of air that contains 23% Oxygen by weight.

Editted to finish off what I was sayin......

Yep, 21% Oxygen, 78% Nitrogen plus 0.02% Carbon Dioxide and the remaining % made up of Neon, Argon, Xeon, Helium and Krypton, IIRC. My first ever Biology homework at high school in 1988.

I’d need a different mix.

Let’s see 50% 0xygen, 30% Methane, 15% Napalm and 5% Garlic should do it.

And, just for good measure 3 silver bullets, a rosary and a wooden stake. Oh! Almost forgot, some sunshine!

Den.
Ps Do any of you chaps suffer from pins and needles?
Ps2 S**t, forgot the sulphuric and hydrocloric acids!!!!

You're short of oxygen in that mix... you need twice the volume of oxygen as methane for complete combustion, and that's without the napalm etc. Get rid of the hydrochloric acid - keep that for electrolysis with ammonium sulphate - and stick plenty of nitric acid in. Or perchloric, if you really want some fun.

You’re right !

I’m a vampire slayer, not a chemist!

I’ve just had a word with Buffy, a chemist friend of mine.

She reckons CH4 (Methane) plus 2 x O2 = CO2 plus 2 x H20, so twice as much Oxygen required (as you said), not counting the napalm and the incineration of the body.

Anyway, who said I wanted a complete incineration?

Dante’s inferno would be quite acceptable . Eternal burning but no death !

Den time for Sweet dreams Peter

Thanks Breadline,

After that amusing detour, all I wanted to know was what percentage of Oxygen goes into an engine to compare with the percentage that comes out of a) a properly maintained exhaust system and b) one with a leak.

All in the interests of ensuring that an article in the next Kit Car (about engine tuning, needle valve settings, etc) is technically accurate. Well there’s a first time for everything.

I didn’t think I’d learn about the chemistry of Dante’s Inferno , nor get a sudden desire to purchase and ex-army flame thrower attachment for my
