With my newly acquired 3000S sitting in the garage, I'm ready to start a basic check (plugs, airfliter, oil change, cooling system flush, gearbof/diff top-up etc but I have no handbook or Haynes guide (Capri MkII, 3.0L I believe). I'd like to check the right parts are fitted, rather than just replace 1:1.
As an example, the current air-filter is a Champion W122 ? Is this correct ?

Where can I source this type of info.?

Also, I guess replacement gaskets are hard to find - what's the recommended alternative - cutting out from gasket sheets?

You will find that the engine and gearbox are as you say Ford 3.0L.I found on my 1975 3000m the diff suspention and most of the electrical gear is off a Triuph TR6 .During my rebuild I used Adrin Venn at Exactly TVR.What this chap doesn't know about m series isn't worth knowing.He gives good advice and won't rip you off on spares.You will find him on www.exactly-tvr.demon.co.uk .

Adrian Venn was the 'expert' used in the article 'How to Service a TVR Taimar' (same engine engine, running gear pretty much) in the July 2000 issue of Classics magazine. This has lots of basic service info in it, maybe they have back issues. I have a copy I could photocopy/scan if you can't get hold of it.

The Capri Mk II 3litre Haynes manual is another useful reference if you can find one (autojumbles?), and I think you can order photocopies of the orginal handbook from David Gerald. Of course, they all say different things...

Don't forget to use EP90 in the lower front trunnions & not grease! (assuming they're the TR6 units as in the 3000M).

I'd appreciate an e-copy of Adrian's article, if you have time.

Just checked my trunnions - greased! However, they look in good condition (ie recently replaced? though I can't see it in the service history) and are each fitted with a grease nipple, so maybe it's ok.

Yes, there is a grease nipple but scushing is correct - should be filled with oil for proper lubrication, as per manual.

I've got an old fashioned pump-action oil can whose plastic spout is a tight fit in the threaded hole where the grease nipple fits. So every few months I remove the grease nipple and pump loads of oil in, one side of mine is greased and this is enough to force it out. I usually put a piece of card between the disc and the trunnion as it gets messy.

I'll make a copy of the article when I have a moment.

For oiling trunnions, I tried a standard grease gun filled with EP90 but that didn't work well & I recently bought a small gun which works like a bicycle pump - the nozzle fits over the grease nipple and moving the body of the pump down pushes oil out. Works a treat.
