Good afternoon all,

I am interested in buying a set of textiles as I will be doing more touring this year and my leather's, although comfortable and hard wearing, are not waterproof. I thought about getting a synthetic trousers and jacket set (armoured) that I can use when on the VFR 800 (black - would be good to have something that not clash on other bikes though - how vain!). I know that BMW do a good line but I have not bought any kit for a long while and I am slightly out of the know - can anybody recommend a manufacturer to look for. I am 6' and medium build if that affects the advice. I don't really want to be spending 300 pounds plus if I can avoid it.

Thanks

If you are happy with your leathers and only need something to be waterproof when it rains then why not simply buy an unlined over suit?

If you want to go for a complete textile suit then you will not get anything that offers the same level of protection and is waterproof for £300 new and while there are some second hand bargains to be had, you may end up spending your money only to find that the waterproofs aren’t, and your no better off than you were with your leathers!

Yep hein gericke is fantastic. Good value and mine (bottom of the range) have been waterproof for over a year now.

As advice, I've got Textiles but I am replacing them now (when my order arrives, finally) with Triumph/Alpinestars leathers, and have bought myself a Rev-It waterproof to go with them. I really think this is the best option as the majority of lower cost textiles are just not very strong. The armour is sometimes very good but you are still left at the mercy of 600D nylon.

Leathers for me, finally.
