What’s going on with the prices of used cars, it seems that some people are willing to accept massive losses whilst others seem overpriced, especially the golf GTi’s. I’m interested in a golf for sale, 55 plate white GTi on for 11 ish, but, what car is suggesting closer to 9.

http://www.whatcar.co.uk/valuation-summary.aspx?MA...

What are peoples thoughts, its been for sale a while, I’m not going to post the ad as I don’t want to upset anyone, but, it’s a white 55 plate, pretty standard by the looks, 18” Monza’s, 3 dorr, and 45,000 miles.

So then, are you thinking the above is fair price?
Whatcar a bit low?

Is yours for sale at 10 grand?

WhatCar seem to undervalue cars quite a lot. I was once on the hunt for Golf Plus 2.0 TDI DSG, took the WhatCar valuation price and couldnt find a single car at a VW dealership anywhere near close to WhatCar's price.

Parkers is more realistic IMO, and this site is quite good http://www.freecarvaluations.co.uk/

Parkers, http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuatio... 9 - 11 depending on condition, but working on 30,000 miles.

I still think it's a nit pricey, also, it's been for sale over 2 months I think.

Looking on Autotrader that price looks very strong.

Suggest nearer £9k.

Is it this one?

as its private with no warranty and no leather i would say its worth 9.5-10 tops.

lots more out there for 9-10 with average miles on 05/55 from dealers

We have a winner, that's the one.

All good points, only noticed it on PH recently, been on the trader for ages tho.
( ish should be a fair price then? I know there are loads about, but, that one is round the corner (6 miles according to the search).

Just got to kame my decision now, stuck between a 330ci, Z4 3.0 and the golf. Any thoughts would be appreciated?

£10k would seem a more sensible price, I agree.

As for which one to go for...interesting list, difficult to say, as they're all very different. What are you looking for from the car (honestly...am guessing that badge/prestige matter to you given the shortlist)?

Badge and prestige are important to a degree, I currenly drive a 19 yr old MK2 golf GTI and think it's time for some thing nice.

I don't do alot of miles so not too bothered about fuel, but, I want something quick when needs be and economical(ish) on a run, hence the above and why I have given up on the s2000 or 350z idea.

Would go for a similar SEAT but would prefer a new shape leon which would be out of my budget for the cupra. MX5, no matter how good is still a girls car in my, and my mates opinions.

BMW for the rear wheel drive thing also, but, the MK5 GTi is a nice car, probs going to cost less to run, just as quick in the real world, cheaper insurance etc etc.

Gof GTI MK5 is streets ahead of a 330Ci which is one of the worlds most overated cars (very late ones are better).
What's the difference betweena very late one and a 4 year old £10k one ?

If I was buying now I'd be in a £10k GTi like a shot.

Vee, I removed my post as not want to offend any 330 drivers. My meaning was that when considering the E46 3 series then the general view is that the post 03 ones are better than the earlier ones. (apologies have gone a bit off topic!)

GTI for lower road tax, more sporty looking and tuneable.

The 330ci sport can come with many options at a bargain price, you can't beat them full leathers for comfort not to forget the rwd fun. The only thing that puts me off is the stereotype with BMWs.

No problems mate, I think the same despite running 2 E46 330s. If they were worth anything more than £5 I'd be looking changing them.
Post 2003 are 6 speed and facelifts, no more than that.
You said very late so I assumed you meant 55/06 plate cars, which are no different.

Understand the comments re the 330ci, you pay alot more for a coupe which is too similar to the saloon. The 4Z on the other hand is a nicer car, but, the insurance is very high, a quick look suggests around 300 notes more per year (which is what I'm paying at present).

Too be fair, it's the rwd thing that points me in the direction of the BMWs, don't know why, never had one, and would just like to see what it's all about. To be honest, i'd probably not be going everywhere sideways so it'll not make much difference.
