e60 545i - MPG?
Discussion
The published 'urban' figure for the 645 (same engine) is 17.5. Thats what mine does around town. I have never experienced the 35.3 'extra-urban' figure though, more like 25 tops. Only do 6k a year so it's not an issue - I just bung 30 quids worth in when the range gets below 80 or so. If I did over 12k a year I would not have got the V8.
I'd be surprised if it's worse than an E39 540i, since the E60's lighter and the engine has the more efficient Valvetronic head.
Still, it would be interesting to know if that theory is borne out in practice. I'd be disappointed with sub-20mpg round town; my 540i manages 20mpg driving into the centre of Birmingham with no great effort to be economical.

Well, quite - I was a little shocked, he also said the servicing was much more expensive than the 3litre, which I don't really get with the exception of there being more plugs!
It's made me switch my focus to the 130msport - given that it has the same performance...
Got a test drive of one on saturday - alas my part exchange now needs an accident repair after someone rear ended me on the way home from the dealership.

I think it would make a difference whether the 545i was auto or manual (even though the official figures show little difference). My 540i use to average 25-30 depending on journey, and I'd be surprised if the 545i with valvetronic wasn't better.
Does anyone know the mph/1000rpm figure in top, as its very difficult to find these days?
I've driven a few cars with that engine, but only autos. It think the manual would be a real honey, with even better flexibility. It doesn't "suffer" from a high lift / high overlap cam to achieve the specific power.

More plugs, holds more oil + coolant + transmission fluid, bigger brakes, bigger tyres etc...It all adds up to make the V8 more expensive to run than the straight 6.

Not sure where you sourced that info but I know that My E39 is nowhere near the weight of an E60 of the equivalent spec.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
