Cat collapsed on motorway journey! How much to fix?

Driving from Blackburn to Cambridge on Saturday when the car started struggling, and eventually gave up near Birmingham!
RAC think the cat has collapsed blocking the exhaust system.
Symptoms:
- car started miss-firing when in cruise control at 70 mph
- fuel economy started dropping
- no real response when trying to accelerate
- eventually a gradual incline brought it to a halt
- smell of burning oil or rubber when got out of car
- car will idle, but struggles above 2500 rpm
thing is i drove for probably 80 miles from first miss-fire, so could this have caused serious damage?
and how much is a new cat?
any help appreciated.
