Few questions for newby...
Discussion
First off, hi to everyone.
I'm writing on behalf of my dad (he's a technophobe !!) who has recently bought a 1997 Cerbera 4.2. Luckily he lets me drive it so I feel that it is at least partially mine !!!
Anyway, he has a few questions that he has asked me to put to you knowledgable people, so here goes...
1) Are there any general do's and don'ts specific to this car?(He has owned classic cars so has a general idea).
2) The brakes are a bit screachy. The dealer said they all do this. Do they?
3) Are there any weekly or other checks that should should be done that you wouldn't normally do on other cars?
4) there is a noise from the rear that sounds a bit like the exhaust banging. It was taken back to the dealer who adjusted it slightly, but it is still there. He said 'they all do that' (I see a pattern emerging !!).
5) What tyre pressures do you guys run? Do you stick to as the handbook (it has S0-2s on the rear and S0-3s on the front).
Finally thanks for your help.
Cheers
Mike

1) Always warm it up properly before giving it any revs ie do about 5 miles before going over 3K revs and a further 5 or more before giving it more than 4K revs.
2) They dont all squeal when braking
4) Get yourself an indie to look after it.
5)What wheel sizes do you have?

I check the engine oil and coolant each time before I drive it. I'm sure your dad probably does this anyway.
Keep it below 3000rpm for the first 10 miles until it has warmed up.
Brakes screeching and clunking noises are fairly common but can be rectified (search for previous threads on here).
All my tyres are set to 26 which is not the handbook recommendation but a recommendation I read on here from Joolz.

I'm no expert but own a 4.2 cerb.
> Normal maintenance... check oil regularly esp.
> Banging from the exhaust... is it just popping? Most cerbs pop and bang a bit as unburnt fuel ignites in the exhaust. can sound like the exhaust bumping.
> 'they all do that' doesn't cut it for me...
> tyres as per handbook unless you are on track/ especially hi performance.

Cheers guys,
Most helpful. I agree, 'they all do that' doesn't cut it with me either - hence I'm asking here !!. I'll search for previous threads on brakes.
As for the exhaust, fairly sure it is banging against the underside as it definately improved when the dealership adjusted it.
Can anyone recommend an independant dspecialist in Herts/Bucks/Berks area?
Wheels are std 16". Tyre size can't remember, but std.
Cheers again
