I just wont stop, feels like the car is becoming a botomless pit for money right now.

Fixes include, bottom end rebuild, camm, clutch, starter, service, etc, etc, etc.

Upgrades include, Nitrons, AP brakes and ACT carbon stuff.

So, after 1 year of ownership I have spent about 8k, can anyone top that and make me feel better????

Not me, but the previous owner spent over 10k on the car. First thing he did was spend 2.5k changing the car from purple to blue. Then a few more quid on brake upgrades, de-cat, Mark Adams chip/rolling road, magnecor leads, etc,etc the list goes on. Couldn't believe the bills in the folder when I got the car!

Believe me someone will always be able to convince you you'need' something!

just fixes and upgrades in that cost.

I have done around 10k, most of the fixes came to light as we dug deep into the engine.

The AP's and Nitrons make a massive difference, the car now handels well and stops very quick.

mojo - what sort of history did the car have prior to you buying it?

So do you feel you were just unlucky in getting your particular one as I had mine for 18 months and never spent any money on anything bar a service and running costs as nothing ever broke.

Luck of the draw I guess.

Car had a history, dealer stamps from my local. After my time with a TVR I don't put much faith in a dealers stamp.

I chose to do the upgrades which account for close to half the cost and must say they make the car feel great (Nitron, AP and ACT)

I guess with 40k of miles on the clock things like clutch, starter, camm are faily common so did not bother me that much.

The one that killed me was the broken piston which caused the rebuild and a majority of my unplanned costs. I have no idea what caused this just glad it did not cause more damage.

Good news, if any, is the car is rebuilt now and I know every inch of the car and it should be good for tones of miles without any major work

Not a Chim but a Griff, after 2 weeks I had it serviced, bill came in at £1400 (expected about £800), a week after that my uninsured neighbour reversed into it, my insurance paid out about £2500 I paid the extra to get the rest of the car painted which was £1500 including my £500 excess. Shortly after that the calliper seized, it needed new discs as well £300, new wishbone plus oil and filter change £300, bottom end engine rebuild including cam £1700.

That’s £5200 I've spent about 10 months, unfortunately its using lots of oil since the rebuild and started rattling at the VW meet, hoping once the garage sorts it out it’ll become a bit more reliable.

It wont stop, just got a call to say the rad is leaking and the diff bush is gone.

Also, just upgraded my stereo now need to upgrade the speakers again due to the mighty powerful new amp.

So, just wasted a bit of dosh on 4 new infinity speakers.

It is a pleasure when I drive the car and it keeps getting better, its a pain when I stand back and look at the bills.

Overall I love the car and the fact that it is a bit special, so overall a pleasure.

I found myself going down a similar route last year with my 4.0l Chim.

First it was bigger wheels, then some Act loverlies, then I had a speed 12 headlight conversion done, and had nitrons in the pipeline and was thinking about some ACT performance mods, until i realised the car I was trying to create was in fact a Tuscan.

Bought the Tuscan the day i picked up the chim from having its headlight conversion. Doh!!
