All, I pick up the new RRS TDV8 today and was wondering what would be a sensible approach to running the engine in (of course i am sure the dealership will give me some ideas)? Do modern engines need it? It's some time since I was behind the wheel of a brand new car (of my own anyway).

Also, can anyone comment on ECU tweaks with this engine? I.e. DMS?
It's unlikely I'd do it - just interested re, whether it's recommended and if anyone has had it done and could advise of the performace gains.

Cheers

Tom

I'd be really interested to hear how you get on with this car. Please keep us posted.

Dont recall being told to do anything specific with the TDV8, have driven it hard from day one although not stupid if you catch my drift, just the usual let it warm up before giving it full beans.

If anything i have noticed that it has got faster as the mileage has increased.

Either way get in it and enjoy it.

On my TDV6 there was a 600 mile run in period keeping it below 2500rpm and 70mph (it's in the manual.) But TBH the engine doesn't really need it, but it's good to let all those new components to get bedded in together . Main thing is to bed the brakes in properly, those Brembos can warp and squeal so no heavy applications, just smooth steady applications for the first 2-300miles. Manaul also says to just get in and drive, don't let it idle while cold and make sure it is nice and hot once before ragging it, at least 10 miles of high speed driving, not in town stop start.

Apparently the DMS tune is 340bhp and 600 lbsft torque, seems pretty impressive

Let us know if you go ahead with it.

(just over) 1 week in and really enjoying the vehicle so far. I mean we had a 4x4 (old freelander) previously so would have been fine in the snow - but in the RRS, I have to say it was all very easy and very predictable.

It's smooth, comfortable and effortless.

I did alot of driving in the snow on Friday and freaked a bit because the 'engine performance' light came on the dash (in amber) and stayed there. So I whipped the car to the Dealer's and they plugged her in to check her out. I had wondered if frozen snow and Ice might have triggered the warning and they found no issues and no untoward fault codes and said the snow and Ice could have been the issue.
The warning light on the dash had disappered, way before I went to dealers and has not re-appeared since.

Am faffing around alot to find perfect seating/mirror etc positions for the wife and I. And looking through the manual and all the menus to see what other things can be messed around with.

One thing: I was sure when we did the test drive, the vehicle we were in then - well on stopping and the wife getting out - the seat moved back so that access/exit was even easier. Did I dream this and is it possible to configure on our vehicle? I can't seem to find an option for it.

Not feeling like I actually _need_ a DMS or similar upgrade yet. But will run it for a few k miles and see how I feel.

I would think the transient glitch is just because the car has been sat for a bit. Give it a good run.

As for the seat moving back. Turn the switch on the control column to 'Auto' and the steering wheel will move up out the way and the seat will move back and down.

I have ran my TDV8 from new,2006,56 plate, currently at 43k miles, got it remapped at 2k,started to get excessive black smoke on full bore, this was quite embarrassing as a lot of people who know me were taking the p*ss,went back to dealer who put it back to standard as the vehicle was giving other bother and i was worried about the remap giving the dealer a 'get out of jail free card'the garage that did the remap thought that the injectors may not have been able to cope with the extra 50 or so BHP increase,I was supposed to go back to try and go for 300 isn BHP but never bothered as I keep having sell it/keep it mood swings.
