Right. I've decided (after 5 months) that the Chim isn't quite loud enough, so it's time to get the exhaust sorted. The one condition is that I must be able to do track days but I'm willing to add extra silencing cans to bring it back down.

As I see it my options are:

1) Open silencer, remove wadding, weld back up - possibly too loud?
2) Open silencer, sleeve the pipes, weld backup - probably too loud?
3) Open silencer, partially sleve pipes, weld back up
4) Open silencer, partially sleve pipes, remove wadding, weld back up

I know there are going to be a few of you with this kind of work done at the Woodsman at Ide Hill on Sunday. What I need to know is who's done what so that I can listen to it (preferably on the move) to try and guague what I can get away with.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob ,
Convoy on Sunday from The Star pub down the road from Mole Valley. I've put details on the Events forum. There should be a good number of wedges coming. They will certainly provide some noise.
see you soon,
Karen

Hi Karen,

I'm going to see my Dad in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday and bring him along on Sunday so I'll be heading over on the back roads. Maybe a mini convoy on the way home, or a blat around Kent later on?

Rob, I would also be very interested in what you decide as thinking of having the same thing done, just not sure what variation will be best.

rob, i am getting the baffles removed and the exhaust fully sleeved (no half measures for me!) at Tower View after the Bedford track day. Tower View do some silencers which bolt on to the exhaust if you attend future track days with strict noise regs.

think i can live with the noise, if i can't, i'll sell the chim and buy a lexus...

If you can wait till then you can hear mine!

Rob, I'm off to Austec tomorrow morning to get the exhaust sleeved on my 4.0 Chim. I'm looking forward to hearing the effects though must confess to some trepidation that it's going to be a touch on the loud side. Hang on....... a touch on the loud side?! I'm starting to sound like my dad here! That's one of the reasons I bought the thing in the first place What I really mean is that I can't wait to hear the sound, I'm guessing it's something akin to the growl of the dogs of war being unleashed from the gates of hell. Or some other cliche like that! If you don't have any luck finding someone who's had it done let me know and I'll swing by some time. I usually go between Brighton and London most weekends and any excuse for a backroad blast is always an option. Go on, get it done, you know you want to!

Actually, hang on a sec, are you in London? If so I think I might have seen you last weekend having too much fun going sideways on the junction between the Wandsworth Bridge road and the King's road? Own up, was it you?

Hi there Simon, would you mind giving us a write up on the exhaust sleeving at Austec once you've stopped popping and banging?

Good to see you today, hope you liked the noises you heard from the 'doctored' cars at the meet.

Drop me a line & I will give you the details of where the cars were modified. If only I could convince my wife that the Griff would sound better for it, she's having none of it but I will keep trying.

Nick
ps. my other cars a Lexus...nothing wrong with that!!

i'm interested in the same for my 4.5 chim, wonder if there is an exhaust out there which sounds better but comes under 98 db for goodwood, chance is a fine thing!!!
hopefully the engineers out there will read your enquiry too.
