I am in need of a palm ... but which one.

Who uses what and why ? What is good.

I do not need to huge processing power, just a good Notes compatible diary etc etc ...

Just bought an iPaq 2210 - great bit of kit IMHO.

I've spent a long time playing with PDAs, and have come to a very sad conclusion; they're nearly all crap. They crash too often (i.e. once), they're too big, they use too much battery, the screens are crap, the software's crap, they're too difficult to synchronise to a PC, they don't support non-Windows connectivity very well, they're too difficult to type on. Pick any three... But worst of all, the software's crap. I use a PDA as a super diary/phone book (and occasionally as a console for Cisco routers!). And I've never found anything that's even remotely as good as the "Contacts" app on the Psion 5MX. The problem is that the Psion is crap in a number of other ways (not least that you can't buy them any more).

So, I'm still looking. I'm currently trying sn iPaq and the Blackberry is coming shortly. But I don't hold out much hope.

Depends what you want.

If you just need calander, 'phone book, reminders, to-do, get a palm zire (60 notes I think) which is small, is rechargeable and synchs pretty well to anything.
The only ommision is an email client, but then you jump to the Tungsten E (145 I believe)

Things start to get expensive (and OTT IMHO) past this. Do you really need colour, and all the other 'toys'? (eg a camera on the Zire 71 245notes!)

P.S I have an old palm III that is past it's sell by date, and will just be getting a basic Zire when the time comes

I'm using a palm M130 and it's great. The early palms were rather dodgy, but the build quality is brilliant. It's only ever crahsed when i've put shite software on it, even then it's going again in less than 5 mins.

Anyone that says "just use paper and a pen", obviously was halucinating when their paper beeped to remind them of an appoitment.

Psion5 was fantastic, but missing coulour screen and the ability to synchronise more than once... ever.

I've been a long time palm pilot fan right from the original, and recently replaced my ultra slim m505 with the slightly bulky handspring treo 270 which has the advantage of including a cual band gsm phone.... build quality on the 270 is a bit poor and i've btoken 2 but otherwise great

Tsk. My Psion works fine and I'd be lost without it. Gawd knows what I'm going to do when it goes bang.

a bit old now, I bought a 6 month old Ipaq 3975, mainly for the Navman GPS jacket, but I also use it to watch movies, play MP3's on the train into work.
Handy to keep a note of fuel useage, and price paid at the pumps too.
