with all this talk about gearboxes blowing up i thought i had better change the oil as part of the next service ,Noble recommend shell spirax 75w 90 which only seems to be available in 80w 90 ,don,t suppose that is going to make that much of a difference but is there anything better out there ?? are you guys using anything else that is better ?? For the M400 Gearbox factory recommended Fully Synthetic 75w 90 GP5 Gear oil, Morris do gallon of it. I had trouble trying to get hold of some. Eventually I got some from motor factors in Shropshire - Priorslee motor spares - number on yell.com.

I was specifically recommnded it from the NobleForum. The guys who run big bhp jobs over the pond said this is the stuff. Think Royal Purple do a similar version.

Not had any problems and i am running big numbers and waiting for the gearbox big bang.

Don,t suppose anyone can say wether it is better or not ,but if you are going to change the oil you may aswell buy the best there is !! after all Noble were on a budget when they decided what to use and that was a few years ago things move on !!

a simple test is to measure power at the wheels before and after

if the power is reduced after - you can tell its doing something

Yes, but is it doing particularly anything useful? ... I don't think anyone really knows. I do understand the idea of doing the best for your car but sometimes it's a just gives you a false sense of security (or downforce if it's a standard splitter).

btw. The yellow car is a Harrier LR9 driven and owned by Tony Soper ... www.flickr.com/photos/carcrazyrob/2662130566/.

does the harrier have a bmw engine ? it looks pretty cool

i know what you mean is it doing anything ?

i do know there are some oil additives that racing teams use that do reduce wear and friction

my fiesta went through 6 gearboxes before i managed to get something built that took the punishment

the bearings get worn due to poor lubrication and the gears loose mesh and then the box will fail

it may be time to get some proper gear sets manufactured, if there are enough of us we may be able to do it for a reasonable cost

i would prefer a longer final drive or longer 5th/6th - but that may not be what everyone else wants

on a different note - there are other ford final drives that may fit the 5 speed box and allow us to run longer ratios - but we would have to go down to 5 speed

i used to run an 1100cc fiesta final drive that was strengthend to give me a top speed of 186
