Has anyone had any experiences with the companies normally used by insurers (or am I better off trying to get it to a dealer?)

Only experience is with my company car. Insurers normally use reputable companies anyway. I had no issues but do not leave belongings lying around.

After a break in and smashed drivers side window.
My insurers got local company to replace it no problem.
It had to be ordered but they did it next day at my place of work. (had to pay 25 quid excess but didnt effect no claims). Thumbs up to Norwich Union.

That's not a bad price Graham but how do you get through a windscreen every six months? So far mine has done over 16 years.

If it's an accidental stone chip your dealer will do it for the excess only.

Its a racing car !!! 2 stone impacts on the track, one on the trailer!!! and 2 tyre wall excursions....

all leading to big cracks in the screen. the last one was the first lap of the first test session at croix... car in front ran wide at the hairpin threw up the boulders they were using for gravel and by the time the session finished the crack was all the way up the screen

I had mine replaced by an insurance approved company, Autoglass I think, useless, they didnt have any idea. I wrote a list of about 20 faults, including finding razor blades in the engine bay, and the screen wasn't even in straight. When I spoke the the insurance and told them of a little specialist place near me (Chertsey, Surrey) they said, why didn't you tell us in the first place. Took it there, fantastic job.
