I'm looking at a '92 MX-5 1.6 Import, brought into the country in 2000. I did a HPi check on the reg number and it came back with Model: MAZDA Make: 121 DXi!!!! Is this normal, or should it ring alarm bells??

The start of the chassis on the HPi comes up as NA6CE which I would expect, but just concerned it saying the model is a 121?? Any advice would be greatly apprecaited.......

Not normal - call the owner and ask what it says on the V5 - thats the only bit that matters really.

Its a car I am purchasing through ebay. The car is located right down in the South East in Kent, I am north of Peterborough.

Unfortuantely I haven't had the luxury of checking the car/paperwork. This is something I will obviously do, but given the distance I want to go down and pick it up in 1 trip. Its a long way to go just to find out the paperwork doesn't match up! I know this is the risk you run when buying a car through ebay, but obviously I'm trying to do as much homework I can this end before I go down and pick it up.

If the DVLA have made a mistake, is there anyone esle I can check with or speak to about it........

I completely agree, my only other concern is it will cause issues when trying to insure it, as surely insurance companies will have down as a 121?

Should be cheaper then wink

Seriously, send the seller a message telling him what you know and ask them to check the engine & chassis numbers against the paperwork.
