Hi Ken,
It was running pretty much on the button at Anglesey and the first race and testing at Silverstone. After the first Silverstone race, I hade problems with a bush collapsing in the gearbox and gear selection was...lets say, less than precise as a consequence. A change-up from third at 7500rpm on hot slicks during the second race actually resulted in a down change, the car never felt as crisp after that. The head gasket problems started at Oulton.

Should be nice and sweet for my favorite circuit in April!

I asked my wife to get me some 5W/40 semi synthetic oil yesterday, and she came back with 5W/50 fully synthetic.

She asked the guy at Halfords (who hadn't even heard of TVR, and thought Tamora was the make!), so he checked the list, and it stated that the 5W/50 is recommended for S6 engine TVR's

Is this OK to use?

Should be fine, will just cope with higher temps I believe better than the 40

My Indie has always used 10/40 semi in mine.
In fact Dom states his warranty is invalid IIRC should you use fully syn in his rebuilt engines.

But would what I have bought be OK for topping up?

That's all it's for.

When I get the 4.3, clearly, I shall buy the semi synthetic as per Dom's instructions. But for now, would it hurt if I used the 5W/50?

It just has more viscosity when hot compared to a 40wt.

Chris I bought this oil for topping up, although tiny amounts, no problems thus far

Cheers smile

OK, I'll keep it, I only intended to use it for topping up anyway, and not for a complete oil change (not that I could do that on the S6 engine anyway...)

Sure you'll be ok for just topping up Chris. Strictly as per Dom's advice once you've got the 4.3 though!

...some thread resurrection too - 5 years!

smile I did a search before starting a new thread, as I was sure a thread about oil type would be a recurring thing...

Hi Keith,

Your old car now resides in BERLIN, purchased by an Easy Jet Pilot. The old girl is now showing those EURO BOXES, the "BEST OF BRITISH"

Regards,
Bill.
